Dr. June M. Sadowsky is a graduate of UTHealth San Antonio School of Dentistry. She maintained a fee-for-service private dental practice in San Antonio for 11 years, where she developed a zeal for older patients. To learn more, she completed a geriatrics fellowship and a special Veteran’s Administration Geriatric Research Fellowship. Dr. Sadowsky served as the dental director at the Richmond State Supported Living Center for the Disabled for three years. Also a member of a legislatively mandated work committee of the Texas Health and Human Services Commission, she worked to establish a fee schedule and simplify the rules for dentally treating Medicaid-eligible residents in Texas nursing home facilities.
Dr. Sadowsky is a professor in the Department of General Practice and Dental Public Health at UTHealth School of Dentistry at Houston. Her interest in interprofessional collaboration has taken her outside the dental school to work nurses doing clinical research in hospitals, with basic scientists researching movement disorders, and to create educational materials for all professionals. She is on the faculty of the Houston Geriatric Education Center and serves as a dental representative to the Consortium on Aging, a university-wide collaboration to address health and societal needs of the aging population.
A nationally known leader in geriatric and special care dentistry, Dr. Sadowsky is a diplomate of the American Academy of Special Care Dentistry and a past president of the American Society of Geriatric Dentistry. In 2018, she was inducted as fellow of the International College of Dentists.
